Outreach

Twin Oaks Christian Church is very active in outreach and mission work at home and abroad. If you are interested in spreading the Good News and helping improve the world–there are numerous opportunities at Twin Oaks.

ChristNet

Twin Oaks supports ChristNet, which is a seasonal rotating overnight shelter for men, women, and children. Twin Oaks is one of fifty Protestant and Catholic churches in the Downriver and western Wayne County suburbs, participating in a shared ministry. The goal of ChristNet is to insure that no one will be left out in the cold. Guests receive a warm place to stay overnight and three meals.

Rapha House

Twin Oaks  supports Rapha House, an organization that  rescues, loves, and heals children out of slavery and sexual exploitation. Rapha House provides safehomes and aftercare programs for young girls who have been rescued. Rapha House homes are currently located in Southeast Asia, with the goal of expanding globally. Kids Club Sponsorships

In July 2010, Twin Oaks became the test church for a new child sponsorship program for Rapha House’s Kids Club prevention project. Kids Club is located in Takhmao, Cambodia, one of the poorest communities of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Over 400 children from the community gather in the backyard of a pastor’s home twice a week for songs, Bible Study, and a safe place to play and receive love. These children, living in extreme poverty, are at great risk of being trafficked. In fact, some of them already have been trafficked by their parents. Child sponsorships of $30 a month provide education, food, and basic living needs for a Kids Club child and help them escape the cycle of poverty. In less than one year over 70 children have been sponsored by Twin Oaks members and over 20 more are sponsored by people from other churches. If you’d like more information on sponsoring a child please contact Chris Wheeler, US Program Manager of Rapha House Kids Club, at cwheeler@raphahouse.org

Christnet Week

This Sunday begins a big week for Twin Oaks. One we believe we were created for. When we designed this building there were certain things we included with this week in mind. ChristNet week begins this Sunday night and already dozens of you have volunteered or donated items to help us provide 30 homeless friends with warmth, and love, and compassion, and hot meals and warm showers and safe beds for one week – all in the name of Jesus. I want to, in advance, thank Cass Simpson for his leadership and all who have volunteered or donated to this outreach. You make Twin Oaks what it is by letting Christ use you to reach out to those less fortunate in ways such as this.

We do still need several more volunteers, especially with laundry. We need at least one more person each day to gather laundry in the morning and wash it and return it that evening (coins for the laundromat will be provided). Then we need about 6 more people on Sunday the 31st to take sets of sheets and blankets to a Laundromat in the morning and have them back by early afternoon so we can deliver them to the next church. We also need more help preparing breakfasts and LOTS of people to help set up this Sunday afternoon and cleanup at 6AM the next Sunday. To volunteer, contact Cass Simpson at csimps10@comcast.net.
